Fees & Payment

How much does a session cost?
Sessions are £60 for 60 minutes. I also offer a free 15-minute initial consultation — a no-commitment opportunity to talk about what you're looking for and ask any questions before booking your first full session.
How do I make payment?
Payment is made online via bank transfer before the session. I'll share my bank details once we've confirmed our appointment.
Do you offer any concessions?
A concession rate is available for students. Please contact me directly to discuss your circumstances — I aim to make therapy as accessible as possible.

Sessions & Process

How many sessions will I need?
I offer open-ended counselling — the length of therapy differs from person to person depending on your individual needs, goals and expectations. There is no fixed number of sessions. Some people find significant benefit after a handful of sessions; others prefer longer-term support. We'll review how things are going regularly, and the decision to continue, pause or end is always yours.
What happens in the first session?
The first full session is an initial assessment — a chance for us to talk about what's brought you to counselling, your background and what you'd like to get from the process. We also discuss how therapy works, agree on how we'll work together, and I'll answer any questions you have. It's completely fine if you're not sure what you want — we'll explore that together.
What is the free 15-minute consultation for?
The free consultation is a brief introductory call — no paperwork, no pressure. It's a chance for you to share what's brought you to therapy and ask whether I'm the right therapist for you. Many people find it reassuring to hear my voice and get a sense of how I work before committing. I want to make sure I'm genuinely the right fit for you.
How often will we meet?
Most clients see me once a week, which helps maintain continuity and momentum. However, we can discuss what works best for your circumstances — some clients prefer fortnightly sessions, particularly later in their therapy journey.
What if I want to stop?
You are always free to end or pause therapy at any time — this is your process. I would encourage you to let me know so we can have a planned ending session, which can be a valuable part of the therapeutic process, but there is never any obligation to continue.

Practical Information

Where do sessions take place?
Face to face at the Maidstone Community Support Centre, Maidstone, Kent. I also offer online sessions via a secure video platform — ideal for clients outside Maidstone or those who prefer the privacy and convenience of their own home.
Do you offer online counselling?
Yes. All my services — both counselling and Wingwave — are available online via a secure video platform. Online sessions are available to clients anywhere in the UK and are just as effective as face-to-face for most people.
What is your cancellation policy?
Please give me as much notice as possible if you need to cancel or reschedule. Cancellations with less than 24 hours' notice will be charged in full. I understand that life is unpredictable — if something exceptional happens, please do reach out and we can discuss it.
How do I book?
Use the contact form, call 07966 772714, or email alysemancocounselling@outlook.com. We'll arrange your free 15-minute consultation first, then book your initial assessment appointment from there.

Wingwave

What is Wingwave therapy?
Wingwave is a short-term coaching method that uses bilateral stimulation — guided eye movements, sounds or touch — combined with elements of EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) and performance psychology. It works with the brain's natural processing mechanisms to rapidly reduce emotional stress and unlock peak performance. I am a qualified Wingwave Coach — one of a small number in Kent.
How is Wingwave different from counselling?
Wingwave is more targeted and technique-based than traditional counselling. It typically requires fewer sessions (often 1–6 for a specific issue) and doesn't require you to describe in detail what happened. It's particularly effective for specific triggers, phobias, trauma responses and performance blocks. Many clients benefit from combining both approaches. Learn more about Wingwave →
How many Wingwave sessions will I need?
Wingwave is designed to be brief and targeted. For a specific issue, many clients notice significant change within 1–6 sessions. The precise number depends on the complexity of what we're working on. We'll review progress after each session.

Qualifications & Experience

What are your qualifications?
I hold a Humanistic Counselling Diploma and am a qualified Wingwave Coach. I have volunteered with the Samaritans and Mind (Mid Kent), working extensively in mental health and learning disabilities. I am fully insured and committed to ongoing Continuing Professional Development.
Are you insured?
Yes — I am fully insured to practise as a counsellor and Wingwave Coach.

Confidentiality

Is everything I say confidential?
Yes — everything discussed in sessions is held in the strictest confidence. There are limited exceptions required by law, for example if there were a serious risk of harm to yourself or others. In those circumstances I would always aim to discuss this with you first. I also receive regular supervision (standard professional practice) where I may discuss my work in an anonymised way.
How is my personal data handled?
I hold only the basic contact information needed to manage appointments, in line with GDPR requirements. I do not share your personal information with any third parties. If you'd like more detail on how your data is stored and used, please ask.
